How we build eyewear models

Convex3D models each frame by hand from the references you already have. No frames need to be shipped.

What we can work from

Any of these is enough to start. The higher on the list, the faster and more exact the build.

  1. Existing 3D models or CAD files
  2. Design schematics and technical drawings
  3. Tripod and turntable photos
  4. Existing product photography
  5. Phone photos taken freehand

Frames that don’t exist yet

Pre-production frames can be modeled from drawings alone, so images, 3D viewers and try-on assets can be ready before the first production run.

Why we model instead of scan

Clear and tinted lenses, mirror coatings, thin metal and translucent acetate defeat 3D scanners, and a scanner can’t see what’s inside the frame — wire cores, hinges, lens edges set into the rim. A scan also produces one surface, not separate parts with their own materials, and those parts are what recolouring, lens changes and try-on depend on. Eyewear is hard to photograph for many of the same reasons.

After you send references

  1. We check the inputs and flag anything missing or unclear.
  2. The frame is modeled, including hinges, nose pads and lens edges.
  3. Materials are built for each colourway.
  4. Renders are checked against your references before delivery.

Built for eyewear

Our in-house production pipeline exists for eyewear alone: lens, bridge and temple curvature, nose pads, hinges, every common lens type, and the laminated and patterned acetates that are unique to the category.
